Burlingame Intermediate is Outstanding

Dear Lincoln Families,

I am often asked about how our Lincoln Lions will transition to Burlingame Intermediate. Parents have understandable concerns about the number of students, the size of campus, multiple classes and all the changes that come with the amazing developmental stage of young teens. As a 6th & 8th grade Humanities (English & social studies) teacher at BIS for nearly eight years and a former Assistant Principal at Burlingame Intermediate for two years, I cannot recommend BIS enough! I truly loved my time working with middle school students and appreciate all the way kids mature and grow during this pivital window of their lives.

I want to share Mr. Pavao's (Principal at Roosevelt) words below:

Luckily, we have Burlingame Intermediate School (BIS) waiting for our students. Under the new leadership of Mr. Greg Land, and with a returning staff of caring, gifted educators, Burlingame Intermediate School is thriving.  We are truly fortunate to have a Blue Ribbon Middle School right here in our community. With a long-standing tradition of excellence, I am excited to share the many great things that have been happening at the school, thanks to the hard work and dedication of the students, staff, and parents.

BIS has commitment to high academic standards that remains unwavering. The teachers at Burlingame Intermediate School continue to provide top-notch education, ensuring that students are prepared for success in high school and beyond. BIS is proud of the academic achievements of their students, which are a testament to the dedication and expertise of the teaching staff. This work recently led BIS to become one of the only Blue Ribbon middle schools in the area. This is one of the highest honors for a middle school program.

Mr. Land has brought a fresh wave of energy to our already veteran staff. His commitment to fostering a positive school culture and a strong sense of community is truly inspiring. Mr. Land's leadership has already made a positive impact, and we are looking forward to all the great things to come under his guidance.

Burlingame Intermediate School continues to offer a wide range of opportunities for students to grow and learn. From music to athletics, innovation and design, and high academic standards, the school is committed to providing a well-rounded education that prepares our students for success.

This year BIS introduced a Club Fair during lunchtime with over 16 clubs to sign up for.  What was even more exciting was that students themselves initiated many of these clubs. Some of our clubs include the Sports Talk Club, Painting Peeps, Rubik's Cube enthusiasts, and the Rocket Club. These clubs provide students with an opportunity to explore their passions and engage in extracurricular activities that complement their academic journey.

Burlingame Middle School offers a wide range of opportunities for students to explore their creative side. The music and drama programs, led by talented and passionate instructors, allow students to discover and develop their musical and dramatic talents. Whether your child is interested in choir, band, or drama, they can find a supportive and nurturing environment to pursue their passion.

This year the students have been hard at work, preparing an incredible performance of "The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe." The sets, lines, and staging were nothing short of amazing. To add to the enchantment, they even had snowfall in the auditorium to bring the story to life. It was a memorable experience for all who attended.

For the sports enthusiasts in our community, Burlingame Intermediate School offers various athletic programs designed to foster teamwork, discipline, and physical fitness. BIS has coaches dedicated to helping students develop their athletic skills while instilling important life lessons. Whether it's basketball, soccer, or track and field, students are encouraged to get involved and stay active.

In collaboration with the Special Education Department, BIS recently hosted a remarkable event for the Special Olympics. This event brought together three school districts and over 145 athletes, making it a truly inclusive and heartwarming experience. It's a testament to BIS’s commitment to fostering an environment of diversity, inclusion, and support for all students.

In a rapidly changing world, it's essential to foster creativity, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills. At BISl, the innovation and design programs challenge students to think outside the box. By providing hands-on experiences and opportunities to explore STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) subjects, BIS ensures  that the students are prepared for the careers of the future. BIS  provides the perfect handoff to the work that we have strived to complete at Roosevelt.

We are fortunate to have Burlingame Intermediate  School as a cornerstone of our community. Their commitment to academic excellence, coupled with a dynamic and enthusiastic school culture, ensures that your child will receive the best possible education in a supportive and nurturing environment.

I know I don’t write about it a lot, but I am a fan- obviously. - Mr. Pavao

Please feel free to reach out to me with any additional questions about BIS as I am a huge advocate for our incredible Burlingame Intermediate Learning Community and know our programs well after a decade working alongside educators I highly respect.
